Julia Katsnelson, MD, FAAD

Dr. Julia Katsnelson was raised in the Chicago area. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree with Honors in Computer Science from the University of Illinois College of Engineering. While earning her undergraduate degree and afterwards, she worked at Abbott Laboratories as a software engineer. Prior to starting medical school, she spent 18 months doing research at the Wellman Center at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School, under the direct guidance of international-renowned dermatologist and researcher Dr. Rox Anderson, who invented many of the lasers used today in dermatology. Dr. Katsnelson’s research focused on laser-assisted drug delivery for treatment of skin diseases. Dr. Katsnelson is an avid learner and she obtained a Master’s Degree from Harvard University, focusing on Mind, Brain and Education.
Dr. Katsnelson returned to Chicago to obtain her Medical Degree at Rush University’s Medical School. During medical school, she did a dedicated year of research between her second and third year of medical school, as well as several years concurrently with medical school, at Northwestern University under the guidance of prominent researcher Dr. Robert Lavker. Dr. Katsnelson’s research demonstrated that the microRNA-103/107 family is vital in maintaining epithelial stem cell homeostasis.
After medical school, Dr. Katsnelson completed her internal medicine internship at Rush University Medical Center and moved to New York City, where she went on to complete her Dermatology residency at New York Medical College Metropolitan program in Manhattan and Brooklyn. During residency, Dr. Katsnelson was selected to be Chief Resident.
Dr. Katsnelson is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, Women’s Dermatologic Society, and the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery. She continues to learn about the latest updates to the field of medical and cosmetic dermatology by attending local and national meetings.
Dr. Katsnelson enjoys practicing the full scope of pediatric and adult dermatology. Her interests include medical, surgical and cosmetic dermatology. She is passionate about helping her patients achieve their best skin, hair, and nail health through an approach that combines years of training and active collaboration with her patients for the best treatment outcomes. Dr. Katsnelson is dedicated to helping each patient look and feel the best they ever have, and continuously works to develop innovative dermatologic approaches to achieve this goal.
Dr. Katsnelson returned to the Chicago area after residency and enjoys spending her free time with family and friends, and especially enjoys exploring Chicago with her husband and two sons. Her husband is an Oral and Maxillofacial surgeon who treats patients in the same building.
